How it works

  1. Your council opens a season

    It sets the busiest times and places and the rewards on offer, and publishes the rules for everyone to read.

  2. You drive as you normally would

    The DriveRep app notes when your trips start. Everything stays on your phone, and the app never interrupts you while you're driving.

  3. Shift a trip, earn a reward

    Leave a little earlier or later, or avoid the busiest areas at peak time. Rewards are funded by the council and local partners.

What the council sees

Only a weekly summary, in broad bands: how many of your trips started outside peak hours, and how often you drove into the busiest areas at peak time. Never your routes, never exact times, never your name.

A proof shows the summary was calculated correctly from your phone's signed trip data. Device checks and fraud detection protect the data going in.

No reward for driving more

Rewards depend on when you drive, not how far. Extra miles never earn extra rewards.

Your choice

Join or leave a season whenever you like. The rules are published before it starts.

Never while you're driving

No notifications or prompts while you're moving. Summaries arrive after you've parked.

For councils

Run an Off-Peak Club season and pay for results you can check.

  • You choose the peak windows, the zones and the reward budget.
  • We measure the shift against a randomised control group, so you see the effect of the scheme rather than a guess.
  • You get verified, aggregate results: trips moved out of peak hours and the cost per shifted trip. Groups smaller than 20 people are never reported.
  • Residents' journeys are never shared with anyone, including the council.

We're looking for councils to help shape the first pilots. Pilots are planned, not yet running.

What will I need?

A smartphone and the DriveRep app, once it launches. There's nothing to fit in your car.

Does the council see where I go?

No. Councils only see totals for groups of at least 20 people, never individual journeys.

Who pays for the rewards?

The council running the season and local partners, from a fixed budget agreed before the season starts.
